⚠️ ‼️STORM Bert | Wild Camp BAIL OUT ⚠️‼️ Extreme Weather Event

In this short video, I headed out to the Lake District National Park with the intention of completing a wild camp on some easy ground to experience Storm Bert. Unfortunately when I arrived, my assessment was that it was too dangerous. Often, the forecast is inaccurate or conditions locally aren't as bad; this was not the case for the location I intended to camp.

I had been looking forward to a camp as this was the first free time I'd had in many months, so this was really disappointing but the right decision in the end. It feels like there is a storm every time I have the opportunity to camp!

For those interested, I had plenty of warm gear, spare clothes, a satellite tracking communicator, GPS navigation, crampons, ice axe, emergency blanket, head torch, back up batteries and a tent and clothing designed for very poor conditions - the terrain was not technical and the ground in that area is easy, however the visibility and ground conditions underfoot with rapid thaw in progress meant this was a no go. Always make sure you're confident in your own skills and abilities, make sure people know where you are (and when you're due back) and never be afraid to cancel a trip - the mountain will always be there.
