The Merdeka 118 Tower in Kuala Lumpur (KL118)

Description: The Merdeka PNB 118 tower in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia will be completed this year. This iconic new landmark in the Kuala Lumpur skyline has been in the making since 2015, when Lafarge Malaysia started its partnership with general contractor Samsung C&T. Stephen Herald, RMX Technical Services Manager at LafargeHolcim US West Central Region, will discuss the main concrete design challenges that were solved during the preparation and implementation of this exceptional project. Stephen will focus on the high performance mixes that helped optimize the design and construction of the tower. Being able to design and test for high strength and rigidity was key to success. Moreover, a new approach to pumpability design and prediction was created, using a tribometer and simulation tool to ensure the feasibility of pumping concrete up to 1,700-feet heights.
