In light of the London Bridge terrorist attacks, we need to start calling out Radical Islam and promoting moderate Islam. Many Islamic Madrassas (schools) and imams (clerics) preach hate, bigotry, religious intolerance, and misogyny. Unless that issue is recognized and tackled, nothing will be solved.

When President Donald Trump was in Saudi Arabia, they inaugurated a center to promote Moderate Islam and combat Radicalism. In order for that effort to work and be taken seriously, many of the hate preachers need to be booted. Muslims also need to start calling out the radical elements within our communities instead of just complaining about discrimination and racism, otherwise, nothing will change.

The Prophet Mohammed had a Jewish wife called Rihana bint Zaid and she was the daughter of the chief of the Tribe of Banu Nadir, a prominent Jewish tribe in Arabia at the time. During the Middle Ages, the Arabic and Muslim world reached its peak during what is known as the Islamic Golden Age. At that time, two philosophers known as Ibn Rush (Averroes) and Ibn Sina (Avicenna) emerged. They talked about civil liberties and individual rights. Their works were adopted by John Locke, an English philosopher who wrote the Second Treaties on Government. That document was the blueprint the founding fathers used when they wrote the U.S Constitution.

Nowadays, their accomplishments are not celebrated or even taught in many Islamic schools. When they are, Avicenna and Averroes are presented as infidels whose open-minded and tolerant ideas are deemed as demonic and bad.
