Описание к видео Octopus Fishery Done Right | Uthurun Dhekunah

The traditional method of catching octopuses in Maldives involves attaching a hook at the end of a rod, and rather brutally forcing the octopus out of its habitat. This involves the usage of chemicals and excessive force, oftentimes tearing its limbs off or even damaging its habitat and surroundings.

Meet Riyaz Ali, a 50-year old man who is passionate about fisheries and the ocean in general. After working as an English teacher for several years, Riyaz practiced several types of fishery before settling on catching octopuses for a living. The rather destructive and inefficient method of octopus fishery widely practiced in the country led him to research and develop a unique and more efficient method to catch these magnificient creatures.

Watch along as Riyaz explains his environmentally friendly method and how it has affected his income in a positive way.
