The US Military was at DEFCON 2020 educating hackers on skills involved in hacking satellites and other space-based systems with their Hack-A-Sat competition. The DoD has identified software as a key differentiator in whether weapon systems are dominant or out of the fight. They are trying to expose systems to hackers BEFORE they're needed in a fight.

This video looks at the motivations of the military and looks at specifics of the hacking contest at this year's DEFCON, organized by the US Air Force and US Space Force, including the specific hacking scenario and the in-orbit satellite hacking.

Inviting hackers to attack your own systems has become much more common in commercial systems with bug bounties and responsible disclosure programs. I love seeing it applied to space systems!

This contest is one of my inspirations for starting the channel! My hope is that this also inspires SpaceX to start a Starlink bug bounty program so I can continue my Starlink Hacking project without breaking the law!
