Sir Prof. Konstantin Novoselov, 2010 Nobel Laureate in Physics, in conversation with Dr. Florian Kongoli at the FLOGEN Signature Series "Artists of Science™". Born in Nizhny Tagil, Russia, and currently based at the National University of Singapore, Sir Prof. Novoselov is internationally celebrated for his revolutionary discovery of graphene, a one-atom-thick layer of carbon with extraordinary properties: flexible, transparent, electrically conductive, impermeable to gases, and nearly 100 times stronger than steel. What began as a simple experiment using sticky tape to isolate carbon layers became a breakthrough that redefined materials science.

Sir Prof. Novoselov’s work, done in collaboration with Andre Geim, earned them the 2010 Nobel Prize in Physics and catalyzed an entirely new field of 2D materials research. Beyond graphene, his prolific career includes over 475 peer-reviewed publications on topics ranging from mesoscopic superconductivity to intelligent materials and nanotechnology. He was the first Director of the National Graphene Institute in the UK and played a key role in the €1 billion European "Graphene Flagship" initiative. At NUS, he continues to push the boundaries of advanced functional materials at the Centre for Advanced 2D Materials and IFIM (Institute for Functional Intelligent Materials).
