Here's the story about the dollhouse, if you'd like to know more!

In October 2018 I decided to build a dollhouse from a kit, in memory and honor of the one my dad made for me from a kit back when I was a little girl. When visiting him, I told him my plans, and shared how special that dollhouse he made had been to me. I had no idea he would pass away within only a few short months.

I worked on "The Orchid" from 2018 to 2021, and it became something in honor and memory of my parents (my mom helped with the childhood dollhouse, too), with some things in the dollhouse representing them. My mom played piano. The house number is after their birthdays. The chess board is in honor of enjoying board games together (not chess, though!). And I'm on the lookout for the perfect working clock since my dad loved clocks! The interior decorating will maybe never be done (I want it to be full of so many more details!), but the structure and exterior were finally completed in April 2021.

Calico Critters occupied my childhood dollhouse, and even though they're not the perfect scale for dollhouses, new ones are also the residents in this one. I think it's wonderful that they're still around--they're just so cute! The family of cats is the Persians (Lucas, Dawn, Lyra, Skye, and Ryan), and their visitor is guinea pig Penny Pettyfur. (These are the official names.)

Aside from the dollhouse itself, I made some things in it, such as the braided chair mats and rugs, crocheted bedspreads, curtains, fireplace (partially from porch pieces I didn't use!), peg rail in the kitchen (not really shown well), and pillows.
