In this calculus math example, we show the steps of how to algebraically find the limit to a function that has a square root in the numerator. To do so, we first evaluate the function at the constant that our variable is approaching by plugging in that value for our variable. When we find that the limit equals zero/zero 0/0, we know that we need to continue the process.

This leads us to multiply both numerator and denominator by the conjugate of the numerator because it contains the square root. We take our time and explain the step-by-step process as we use the distributive property (FOIL) to expand the numerator and simplify by combining like terms and like radicals. A common factor is removed from each term in the numerator. We also must factor the quadratic function that is in our denominator. Then we reduce our function to lowest terms. We are allowed to do this because it is a limit. After reduced, we again evaluate the limit by replacing the variable with the constant that it is approaching and simplify our answer completely.
