Only 1-5% of cancer cases in a family arise due to hereditary factors. Even if there is a genetic predisposition to cancer, it has to be triggered by environmental factors.

The genetic risk to cancer occurs when there is an imbalance between #oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes. Genetic mutations like BRCA or thyroid cancer gene positivity can be identified with genetic signatures and be treated accordingly. This helps to prevent cancer.

If there is a suspicion of hereditary risk to #cancer (which is possible if more than 3 family members have had cancer in 2 generations), then gene tests can be done. This will help to accurately predict problems, if any, and prevent or solve them.
