Loma de la Cruz, or Hill of the Cross, is a special place in Holguin. Found at the top of the highest mountain, Hill of the Cross offers a little something for everyone.

Hill of the Cross is important for those who practice Christianity in the area, not only because of the cross symbol at the top, but the meaning behind the cross. It was said that the area was undergoing massive drought. A cross was carried and placed at the top of the mountain as a way to appeal to God to remove the drought - and it worked! Today, people climb the hundreds of stairs as an homage, and to ask for continued blessings.

For those looking for a non-religious connection, the area is also extremely popular with tourists, as it offers the best views of the city. You can either park at the bottom and climb to the top, or drive all the way up and enjoy the views without the additional exercise.
