Train With Caboose In Snow With Axle Catching, CSX Train Passes Norfolk Southern With Both Trains Going In Opposite Directions, Special Blue Norfolk Southern Locomotive Pulls Mixed Freight With DPU On The Rear & Man Riding In Caboose On A Frigid Winter Day. These Trains Are In Hamilton, Ohio, USA.
This was 7th largest snowfall ever for this area. We got about a foot of snow. It was 18F when I filmed these trains in the snow. The roads were very bad and it was recommended to stay off the roads. Thats the best time to film. I got to Hamilton, Ohio about 7am and it took a couple hours to get the first train. The first train is a local switching freight with a Sponge Bob Square Cab locomotive and a caboose on the rear. As the caboose passed me I noticed that one of the axles wasn't turning properly and it had a weird sound and a burning smell. It just wasn't spinning freely. It was partially sliding and making a hiss type sound. This train only goes a few miles south, works a customer and then returns.
The next train is led by a special Norfolk Southern locomotive and has a DPU on the rear. This locomotive was the first locomotive for the conversion from DC to AC power. Hundreds of these locomotives had the conversion and this one was painted blue since it was the first.
This video also has several other long CSX and Norfolk Southern trains. My favorite was when I was filming a CSX northbound intermodal at the Heaton Street railroad crossing. As the train was passing me I heard another train horn and a Norfolk Southern train passed in the opposite direction on the other track. Luckily I was on the best side to film this. I heard both trains on my scanner and thought it could happen and since I knew CSX would arrive first I got on the other side of the track to make sure I didn't miss the Norfolk Southern locomotives.
The last train was a huge CSX mixed freight. This was a northbound train that I filmed at the interchange of the CSX and Norfolk Southern. You can see this train crossing over the bridge that goes over High Street. At one time this was a level crossing. I think it was back in the 80s that the road was dug out under the tracks.
We also have several shout outs in the video and we see Ninja Railfan saying "Wait, there's more!" After the last train I had to leave to pick up Mrs Tooth from work. She doesn't like driving in the snow so I took her to work and did some rail fanning at the same time. My truck was the only vehicle that could get out of my driveway anyway LOl. We had 12 inches of snow at my house.
