Mir Taqi Mir shaped Urdu poetry with unparalleled elegance, drawing from Khari Boli, Persian, and Brajbhasha. In The Homeland’s an Ocean, Ranjit Hoskote presents 150 thoughtfully selected couplets, unveiling a poet of melancholia, wit, passion, and bold social vision. Poet, cultural theorist and translator Hoskote has authored several poetry collections and translations including Icelight, Central Time and Jonahwhale. Renowned composer and musician Vidya Shah is trained in Carnatic and North Indian classical styles, including Khayal, Thumri, Dadra, and Ghazal. An award-winning and celebrated performer, she champions women's contributions in music through projects like Women on Record.

Ranjit Hoskote’s collections of poetry include Vanishing Acts, Central Time, Jonahwhale, Hunchprose and Icelight. He is the author of two acclaimed translations: I, Lalla: The Poems of Lal Ded and The Homeland’s an Ocean: Mir Taqi Mir. Hoskote has been honoured with the Sahitya Akademi Golden Jubilee Award and the JLF-Mahakavi Kanhaiyalal Sethia Award.

Vidya Shah is a singer and musician who has performed at prestigious forums, including the Tansen Samaroh and The Kennedy Centre. A recipient of the Charles Wallace Award and the Tagore Scholarship 2023, she was also the Nana Shirgaokar Chair Professor for Indian Music at Goa University (2016-20). She made her Bollywood debut in Manto with the nazm Bol Ke Lab Azad Hain Tere.
