On July 8th, 2016 at approximately 2 a.m. Stockton Firefighters responded to a heavily involved 2-story, single-family, 3rd Alarm structure fire. Upon arrival, fire crews encountered a working, wind-driven attic fire; auto-exposing to the 'B' side structure.

A delayed report time and extended response times places the first-in apparatus on scene moments before the attic fire self-ventilates; shooting flames into the sky. With the initial 1 3/4 attack line in place, the first-in officer calls for a 2 1/2 back up line and a second alarm.

The roof collapses after firefighters were forced to withdrawal, and Command orders a 'Defensive Fire Attack.' The Aerial Master Stream is able to extinguish the majority of the fire. Firefighters redeploy hand lines to various windows and entryways to extinguish the remaining fire.

This fire was brought under control without injury or incident. While the 2nd floor suffered damage from the roof collapse, many of the possessions in the house were saved- including important family documents and heirlooms on the first floor. The fire was kept from spreading to adjacent buildings, despite wind driven embers flying down the street.

Stockton Firefighters are highly trained and experienced professionals; ready and willing 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to risk their own personal safety to save Life and Property. Stockton is one of the busiest Fire Departments (per capita) in the nation. Only 12 Firehouses protect more than 300,000 people, & respond to more than 40,000 emergencies and 400 working structure fires a year.
