As it is so close to the some of the other cultural attractions of Sri Lanka, it can be a great alternative to Yala and some of the other parks in the south.



#Best known for: where you can see the largest, recurring Asian elephant gathering in the world.

#Wildlife spotting: leopards, sloth bears and two endemic monkey species.

#Birding: nearly 170 bird species have been recorded here.

#Endemic reptiles: there are 8 endemic reptiles found in the park, including the red-lipped lizard.

Covering an area of 8,890 hectares, Minneriya is around 4 hours from the capital city of Colombo and is close to other local attractions
