David Woodcock is an English architect who sees hand-drawn as an essential part of practice, devoted 50 years of his life to learning how to teach, and has been blessed by three generations of students who achieved great things despite him (His own words). He's honored to be a professor emeritus and thrilled to have opportunities to interact with people who aspire to create a better world by design.

David earned his professional degree in architecture from the University of Manchester, from which he, later received a graduate diploma in Urban Planning. In 1962, he became a registered architect in the United Kingdom and was licensed to practice in Texas in 1982. He taught at the University of Manchester and the Canterbury College of Art in England, and for 45 years, he was an architecture faculty member at Texas A&M, where he taught design and theory courses and initiated the Career Change Program.

In 1977, he introduced coursework, documenting historic buildings that developed into a cross-disciplinary graduate certificate in Historic Preservation in 1991 and has an undergraduate minor. He founded a research and service unit that became the Center for Heritage Conservation in 2005.
He retired from teaching in 2011 and remains active as a preservation consultant, and with the Association for Preservation Technology International of which he is a past president. He co-authored “Architecture That Speaks S.C.P. Vosper and Ten Remarkable Buildings at Texas A&M”. A history of the campus with a special focus on the depression era buildings published by the Texas A&M press in 2017.

The press published “The Artistic Legacy of Buck Schiwetz” in 2023, for which he contributed a chapter on the influence of Schiwetz, 1921 architecture degree from Texas A&M.
The contents of David's work go back to 1954. He loves drawing as much as he loves teaching and he's honored to be an emeritus faculty member of Texas A&M University College of Architecture.
