Keanu Reeves reprises the role of the Baba Yaga for what could be his last hunt; however, this time around, John Wick will be facing off against someone who has studied all of his previous hunts and tactics and knows each one of his weaknesses. Jason Statham joins as Marcus Kane, a fellow assassin and a man who has been preparing for years for the rematch that will determine who gets to keep the legend of the greatest assassin of all time. One aspect of this installment that I find so compelling is the fact that the destruction of the High Table resulted in a power vacuum in the underworld that has been replaced by decentralized networks of crime that have no code of conduct and no rules. As a result, the very underworld that John Wick dismantled has now turned into anarchy, with factions seeking to eliminate John Wick as a relic of the past that has no place in this new era. Marcus Kane represents the last of the old guard and is someone who respects the art form of assassination enough to provide John Wick with an honorable death that he has earned over his lifetime of violence.

Both Keanu Reeves and Jason Statham deliver some of the most physically exhausting and brutally violent stunts of their careers in these sequences that will leave you believing that both actors are putting themselves at risk for real. These two master assassins engage in long-form battles that are part chess match and part knife fight, with each anticipating the other's movements due to the fact that they were trained by the same people and grew up in the same deadly world. The film also delves into the themes of legacy and obsolescence as John Wick begins to realize that he has become exactly what he used to despise—a man who can't stop killing even though there is nothing left to fight for, but rather for the sake of proving that he is still the deadliest thing in the room. Unlike the typical action sequel, this film offers a deeper look at the twilight of a warrior, asking if legends receive happy endings or if the only way to escape your blood-soaked legacy is to bleed out while continuing to do what you have always done best. You can expect epic, globe-spanning set pieces paying homage to the franchise's iconic gun-fu; emotional weight as John Wick confronts his own mortality via a foe who knows him better than almost anybody else on earth; and a conclusion that acknowledges that some warriors define their entire existence solely by the fight and cannot fathom a life after the peace that they have fought for.
