As we navigate our current world, we are being exposed to many cues of threat in the news and on social media on a daily basis. If we are not careful, our perception of our world and our future can become quite dark as we future-cast the worst case scenarios. We begin to lose perspective that there is a tremendous amount of power, possibility, and potential still within our reach.
We must keep our sights on that which nourishes our body, mind, and nervous system. This helps us to orient to the choices that we do have in the midst of challenging times.

Card from the Post-Traumatic Growth Deck: Realistic Optimism
Realistic optimism allows you to have your dreams while setting attainable goals to achieve them. Being resilient does not mean that you won’t experience difficulty. Rather, it equips you with the skills needed to respond effectively to challenging experiences. Too much realism can lead to skepticism or negativity, which can squash your dreams and hinder your ability to move forward. Too much optimism can result in fantasy or idealism, which can cause you to turn a blind eye to actual barriers present in your life. Realistic optimism lets you attend to difficult life events skillfully so you can progress forward.

At a Physical level, this class is focused on the root chakra as well as the third eye and crown chakras…This is an invitation to have one foot grounded in the reality that surrounds you, while you simultaneously hold your clear seeing and vision for what you are here to create in your life and on the planet.
Core Principles:
• You are your own best teacher
• Listen to the cues you receive from your body, mind, and breath about the state of your nervous system
• Honor your body, your pace, and let your breath be your guide
• Each posture is an opportunity to explore
• There is nothing to perfect and no goal to achieve
• Follow your instincts and make the practice a unique expression of you
• Have fun and let yourself find your inner joy
• Stop and rest as often as you would like
• Let this practice nourish your body, mind, and soul
As you engage in this practice, I ask that you take full responsibility for your own body-mind needs. This yoga class is not a provision of therapy and please be aware of your own physical considerations throughout the guided movement and modify as necessary.
In aims to participate in decolonization efforts, I acknowledge the recency of yoga within the United States as compared to the rich and extensive history of these traditions in Bharat/India which date back thousands of years.
While I am not from India, yogic traditions have enriched my life since I was 7-years old when my parents brought the joy of yoga into my life. I/we owe a great deal of gratitude to the teachers and historical wisdom holders that have come before me, specifically those of Indian descent.
Poetry from today:
Excerpt from WHAT I REALLY NEED
“What I really need is to drink a glass of water slowly, because there is enough-there is enough fast in this world. And every real thing is found inside the soft arms of a moment. And because, in the midst of so much trauma and terror, it is vital to bow to such holy, ordinary things.” Julia Fehrenbacher
THIS THIN LINE by Julia Fehrenbacher
This life is so much to hold. And I
don't know how to make space
for the so-much of it.
I am afraid. And sometimes, often,
I trip over the moment in awe. And
sometimes, I feel both at the same time,
and a whole wild whirl of other things
I don't know how to name.
As I walk through this tired, tender
day, I turn to the yellow finch,
to the sweet fawn feeding herself
in my front lawn, and I
plead: Please show me
how to live in the space between
gloom and glory, how to walk
this thin, thin line between here
and gone, how to lay myself down
so I can be wings for the weary,
a blanket for sorrow—
like finch, like fawn.
