Hickory, North Carolina is the 23rd largest City in North Carolina with a population of a little less than 42,000 residents. The City of Hickory is mainly in Catawba County but extends into Burke and Caldwell County. Even though Hickory is largest city in the three counties ( based on the entire city population) - Hickory is not a county seat.

In the 1850s beneath a huge hickory tree, Henry Robinson built a tavern of logs. The area was known as "Hickory Tavern". In 1870 , Hickory Tavern was established as a town. Three years later the name was changed to the town of Hickory. Later in 1889 the name was changed to the City of Hickory.

Hickory NC is known for it's furniture making through the years and is home to one of the oldest furniture manufacturers in the United States. Hickory White, formally known as the Hickory Manufacturing Company was built in 1902 and still operates in it's original location.

Hickory is home of the Hickory Crawdads which is a class A South Atlantic League minor league baseball affiliate of the Texas Rangers. Hickory Motor Speedway is popular speedway that opened in 1951 and is known as the "Birthplace of the NASCAR stars".

Hickory is an hour northwest of Charlotte, NC and a hour south of Boone, NC which makes it midpoint for residents traveling to the Queen City or the High Country! Hickory has a lot to offer and here are some of the area's attractions:
