August 30 Lorenzo Gamble

Today, August 30, is the birthday of Lorenzo Antron Gamble. He should be 45 but died in the 2022 Chesapeake Walmart attack, taken from his wife, 2 sons, his parents and a large extended family. Lorenzo worked the night shift at Walmart, so he had prepared the banana pudding for the family Thanksgiving meal just before leaving for work.


As a young man, Lorenzo was a gifted athlete known by Zoe and playing fullback for his local football team. A hard worker from a young age, he took his first job as a paperboy at just 10 years old. As a 15-year employee of the Chesapeake Walmart, he was a reliable and respected.


Despite a history of paranoia and threatening statements, the shooter legally bought a 9mm handgun on a Tuesday morning. A few hours later, as he and other night shift employees gathered in the break room before clocking in, he opened fire, shooting 10 and killing 6 innocent people. Waiting periods are just one of many reasonable reforms that can save lives.
