Stormzy has finally addressed the backlash surrounding his recent McDonald’s advert, which came after fans noticed he had archived a pro-Palestine Instagram post. Critics were quick to question the timing, especially as McDonald’s faced boycotts due to its Israel franchise providing meals to the Israeli military in Gaza back in October 2023.

The post Stormzy archived included a clear message: “Free Palestine … if there is ever a clear injustice in the world, no matter how big or small 100 times out of 100 I will be on the side of the oppressed.”

Stormzy has since clarified in a public statement that archiving the post was part of a general cleanup and not a change in his beliefs. He reiterated his continued support for Palestine, highlighting his performance at a benefit concert for Palestine and Sudan in January 2024.

In his latest song “Sorry Rach,” he even responded to the criticism directly with the line:
“I heard they wanna hang me out to dry for a nugget meal, the world might not ever love your boy again but my mother will.”
