If anyone asked me what "Budget Rock" band from this millennium to check out if they'd stopped listening in '99, I'd probably start with these English nutcases. They assimilated the "Rip Off Sound" and all sorts of 90s moves, but they were unique in that they were a loose trio with a very primitive, pounding backbeat (Hot Dog) that Shake and The Hand battled on bass & guitar for stretches before smacking back into the melody. They were "zany" and fun, but their live shows would often get truly wild. 2004 is a nice sweet spot between the blown-out lo-fi trash of their first record and the more melodic angle they took for the 2nd and last LP, as this is blown + it has big hooks, but both LPs and their great string of 45s are recommended. This is from the "Go Nutzoid!" EP on Wrench Records, an underrated UK label run by Charlie Chainsaw of "Rancid Hell Spawn."
