Lyoto Machida's Stealthy Footwork || A Brendan Dorman Breakdown

Somehow, after all these years, I've never done a proper Machida breakdown. I don't have a logical reason why, but I do have a breakdown for everyone from a Patron request.

They had asked for something on Machida's footwork, and while it may seem basic, it's actually quite advanced if someone has no TMA background. Thankfully, for all of you, I do ;) and will have to just visit memory lane a bit for proper nomenclature.

This breakdown will be taken from his fight with Rashad Evans for the 205 lb title. Machida used what the Japanese call Ayumi Ashi. In ayumi-ashi, you are essentially shifting, or crossing your feet like you are walking. With say, suri-ashi, (sliding, think Vitor vs. Wanderlei but less dramatic), it is like walking but with sliding, and stealthy feet.

I have two more in queue, and they're both topical, though no one seems to mind that. I have one on the blending of Kyokushin, Muay Thai, and boxing for one amazing "style" of striking, and the other on defense, specifically elbow blocking, but I'm going to have to be analogous.
