“Towards the Light” reflects a turning point in Alexi Tuomarila’s life and writing. Shaped by a period of isolation, self-reflection, and creative uncertainty during Covid, the music emerged from a process of reassessment, recovery, and renewed focus. The album title signals that shift clearly – a return to clarity, intention, and a deeper connection to the piano.

The project was also influenced by a commission for trio and symphony orchestra, prompting a move away from loosely structured writing towards carefully considered parts, form, and collective rehearsal. That approach carries through the album, giving the trio’s music weight, space, and direction.

Recorded in Porto at Cara Studios, the sound remains deeply rooted in the Finnish tradition – impressionistic, emotional, and patient. The long-standing trio provide a grounded, intuitive foundation, while electric guitar, subtle synths, and post-production textures expand the music beyond piano-led jazz into a broader cinematic language.
