The Jewel of the Desert.

Your fingers trace the fine stonework of the inner wall of Sapphire Avenue as you walk its streets. You can hear the shouts of merchants as they peddle their wares, eagerly awaiting an adventurer's coin. More cunning merchants may yet be espied dealing quietly in corners, away from the bright eyes of visitors and the curious glances of citizens.

Your fingers find air as they cross a thoroughfare, and you briefly meet the eyes of one out of many destitute squatters tucked into corners of the city, a shameful sight hidden from those with coin to spend. The Monetarists make sure of that. They are people uprooted from their homes due to war, famine, or even their own bad luck in this very city.

The jewel glitters still, despite its stains.

Your fingers find the next wall and you quickly come across the entrance to the Adventurer's Guild in the Quicksand. Unlike the unscrupulous behavior observed prior, the guild is tame and booming with interested adventurers under the watchful stern eye of Momodi Modi. Here lies hope and promise, despite the city's overwhelming sense of pride and selfishness, though you are keenly aware that many here will not live to see the next season.

You pause then, taking note of a rare sprinkle of rain. Your lip curls into a small smile as you reach out into the air, grasping the elusive spatter of precipitation. As you do, you note many others up and down the street, from all walks, be they rich or poor, serendipitous or unfortunate... They all stop and look to the sky, reaching out as well.

In this moment, as the sprinkle turns into a downpour, all are equal. And all share in nature's bounty.
