Shri Ram and Lakshman went to collect the necessary materials, but as they were delayed, Mata Sita decided to perform the ritual herself. Using the available items and taking the Falgu River, a cow, a Brahmin, a banyan tree, and a crow as witnesses, she successfully completed the *Pind Daan*. The ritual was fruitful, and King Dasharatha attained salvation.

When Shri Ram and Lakshman returned, Mata Sita narrated the incident. Shri Ram asked the witnesses for confirmation, but all except the banyan tree denied the truth:
The *Falgu River* claimed she saw nothing.
The *cow* feigned ignorance.
The *Brahmin* denied the ritual took place.
The *crow* concealed the truth.

Only the *banyan tree* bravely spoke the truth.

Angered by the falsehood, Mata Sita pronounced curses:
**Wheat**: "Even after being used in sacred rituals, you will be consumed as leftovers."
**Brahmins**: "Despite receiving wealth, poverty will never leave you."
**Falgu River**: "You will remain a river in name only, without flowing water."
**Crow**: "You will never be able to eat alone."

The banyan tree was blessed for its honesty and became revered forever.
