US troops with I-FOR in northern Bosnia have taken over peacekeeping duties from the United Nations.

Men and equipment have been flooding into their headquarters in Tuzla, and there much more to come.

IFOR has arrived.

At the U-S base of operations in Tuzla, the advance teams of combat troops have wasted no time in making their mark, unveiling a sign proclaiming the headquarters of Task Force Eagle.

Much of the 60-thousand-strong NATO force to enforce the Bosnian peace treaty is still to arrive.

Unlike the lightly armed U-N peacekeepers, the I-FOR troops have a clear mandate, heavy weapons and a peace plan signed by all warring sides behind it.

The troops are in high spirits.

The former Danish UN unit in Tuzla has been changing its colours today, painting out the UN signs in preparation for its role as an armoured unit with I-FOR.

Wasting no time in their new role, a US reconnaissance mission has been on the road today.

In the coming weeks, the Americans and their colleagues will be taking control of more and more territory. Identifying minefield, and getting to know their way around their sector is just the start.
