The central government is placing a strong emphasis on land records digitisation as a key reform initiative, with plans to allocate ₹1,035 crore to complete the process by 2026. The move is aimed at streamlining land acquisition and accelerating the rollout of infrastructure projects. The proposal is likely to be announced in the upcoming full budget.

Land reforms are a top priority for the government, which intends to begin with digitising land records if re-elected. This initiative is part of the new administration’s 100-day economic agenda, which includes overhauling land-use policies across urban, forest, and agricultural zones to address frequent delays caused by land-related issues and legal disputes.

In parallel, the government is advancing the Unique Land Parcel Identification Number (ULPIN) program, which assigns a 14-digit unique ID to each land parcel using global geocoordinates, ensuring greater transparency and traceability.
