I woke up early this morning you know my head hurt too bad too sleep
Last night’s empty bottles lay scattered on the floor at my feet
And I think back to what Mama told me and I hang my head and weep

I drag into work hurting you know I can’t stand to miss a day’s pay
My friends take one look at me they just shake their heads and walk away
And I pray to God above won’t you help me make it through this day?
Back when I was younger you know I couldn’t see this coming day

I guess you just can’t tell a young man how quickly the good times pass away
And now when my kids look at me I swear I don’t know what to say
Won’t somebody help me I know I need to get myself straight
If I don’t make a change soon I know what’ll be my fate
I’ll be going down six feet and by then it’ll be too late

Originating in the fall of 1997, One Shot Johnny is a three-piece blues band from south-central Kentucky. The band members are Jeremiah Kelly on drums, Joe Shirley on bass, and Randy Colvin on guitar. They play a mix of modern and traditional blue including both originals and covers. The group has gigged around the Kentuckiana region, sharing billing with such band as Jim Diamond and the Groove Syndicate, Steve Ferguson and the Midwest Creole Ensemble, Big Al and the Heavyweights, Studebaker John and the Hawks, and James Solberg Band.

The band recently released their fourth CD, titled “Times Like These.” It includes the most artistic, raw, and heartfelt blues from the boys yet with cuts like “She’s My Everything,” “Your Eyes Don’t Lie,” and “Scratching Up from Zero” among twelve great original songs.

In 2017 One Shot Johnny won the Kentuckiana Blues Society best blues band award and in 2018 they were the semifinalist in the International Blues Challenge in Memphis.
