The second edition of the Ronye Cup, held at Muhanga Progressive Secondary School, has come to a successful conclusion. The thrilling final matches took place at Nyikunama Playground in Muhanga Town Council, Rukiga District.
The tournament showcased exceptional talent and fierce competition, making it an unforgettable event for players and spectators alike. Throughout the tournament, teams demonstrated their skills and determination, contributing to the excitement and passion that filled the air.
The tournament, which kicked off a month ago, witnessed intense inter-class competitions among the students at Muhanga Progressive Secondary School, featuring Volleyball, Netball, and Football events. This remarkable sports event was set up and sponsored by Ronye Group of Companies, with the Company's Chairperson, CPA Rollings Masiko Nyesigomwe, being an esteemed alumnus of the school.
The eventful day commenced with the Netball final between Senior 1 and Senior 3, where Senior 3 emerged victorious with a score of 14 points to 9. The atmosphere was electrifying as the players showcased their skills and teamwork, drawing cheers from the enthusiastic spectators.
Next on the pitch was the thrilling Volleyball final between Senior 3 and Senior 4, with Senior 3 triumphing with an impressive score of 75 points to 40. The players displayed incredible athleticism and determination, making it a riveting match for everyone present.
Finally, it was time for the much-awaited Football final. Before the main event, an exciting curtain-raiser match took place between the Old Boys of the school and the current students. In a closely contested match, the Old Boys secured victory with a single goal, leaving the majority entertained
The Ronye Cup 2nd Edition has been a true celebration of sportsmanship and camaraderie, bringing together students, alumni, and sports enthusiasts in a spirit of unity and healthy competition.
In the epic climax of the Ronye Cup 2nd Edition, the final match took place between Senior 3 and Senior 6, with Senior 6 emerging as the victors with a narrow scoreline of 1 goal to 0. The intensity and excitement of the game were palpable as both teams gave their all to claim the prestigious title.
Following the conclusion of all matches, an awards ceremony was held to recognize the exceptional performances of the players throughout the tournament.
Rolling Nyesigomwe, the chairperson of Ronye Associates, the sponsors of the tournament, expressed his delight at the significant improvement observed in the 2nd Edition compared to the 1st Edition. He emphasized their commitment to continuing their support for such a tournament annually. Additionally, they have plans to establish the Ronye Academy to further nurture and support talented individuals.
Baker Tweyongyere, the headmaster of Muhanga Progressive Secondary School, acknowledged the financial challenges faced by the school. Despite these obstacles, he expressed satisfaction with the steady progress in implementing the new academic curriculum, which emphasizes practical learning and real-world applications.
He also took the opportunity to congratulate the victorious teams in all the games of the Ronye Cup tournament.
James Twijukye, the mayor of Muhanga Town Council, reaffirmed the government's commitment to promoting and supporting sports in the region. He encouraged the students to work hard and nurture their talents, emphasizing that sports play a crucial role in personal growth and community development.
Furthermore, Mayor Twijukye revealed the council's ambitious plans to expand Nyikunama Play Ground.
Looking ahead, the Ronye Cup is expected to continue growing and providing a platform for young talents to showcase their skills and passion for the beautiful game of soccer. Ronye Group of Companies through CPA Rollings Nyesigomwe made a generous donation to Muhanga Progressive Secondary School by providing a full set of jerseys to each of the six classes.
In addition to the jersey donation, Ronye also showed their appreciation for the winners of the Ronye Cup tournament by donating a bull to them.
