Nokia 8850/8890 (1999) | Vintage Tech Showcase | Retro Review

This is my vintage tech showcase video of the Nokia 8850, also known as the Nokia 8890 in the US. This unit is indeed the 8890 but the differences are just the gsm bands and that's all. The Nokia 8850 was released in 1999 as a premium business phone. It was basically the highly successful Nokia 8210 or Nokia 8290 but with a few more features, a aluminum alloy body, a slider mechanism and a much higher price tag. Its main selling point was its extremely high quality build, featuring a very solid slider mechanism which can be used to lock the phone and buttons that feel extremely premium as well as other premium Nokia features that 1999 had to offer. It was easily the best build phone in the world in 1999 and its price tag reflected that. The Nokia 8850 is a rare collectors item that usually sells for about $100-$500 on eBay. I got this for about $6.6 in a $60 lot of 9 phones which also included other rare collectors items.
Nevertheless, it is indeed a vintage Nokia or retro Nokia that needs to be addressed in a retro style review and I will be doing a video on Using Nokia 8890 in 2022 or Nokia 8850 2022 so stay tuned by subscribing! The Nokia 8850 also has an Infrared receiver and transmitter which allows it to communicate with supported PC's, Printers and other mobile devices to transfer or receive information such as contacts or business cards. This infrared port can also be used to play the Classic Nokia Snake game in 2 player mode with another supported device.
The Nokia 8890 is another great example of a vintage Nokia phone that is built like a tank and gets the job done.

These are considered rare phones or collectible phones and I am keeping them in my phone collection since they are considered as a vintage phones or retro phones.
My collection also includes Nokia Prototypes, Blackberry Prototypes, Motorola Prototypes, Sony Ericsson prototypes, Sony Prototypes, HTC Prototypes, Rare Nokia and other rare developer devices! These phones are no Android 11 or Android 12 powerhouses and It also ain't no iPhone 13 Pro Max, Google Pixel 6, Lumia 950Xl, Lumia 1520, Lumia 1020, Google Pixel 6 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra, Motorola Edge S or OnePlus 8T but are definitely interesting phones on their own!
