With OTAs in the books and minicamp ready to begin, the Cowboys made two roster moves that could precede a couple more ahead of training camp in late July.

To replace Callaway, the Cowboys signed wide receiver Tyron Johnson, who was one of seven players the club worked out Monday. He has played for four teams with 23 catches for 422 yards and three touchdowns in his career. All but three catches and 24 yards came in 2020 for the Los Angeles Chargers.

Callaway ended the 2022 campaign on the Cowboys' practice squad and earned a reserve/future contract in January, but he's been let go ahead of mandatory minicamp. The 2018 fourth-round pick hasn't appeared in an NFL regular-season game since 2020. In a corresponding move, Dallas signed Tyron Johnson.

And, as promised, the Cowboys continue to sift through the quarterback pool in the search of a developmental arm after having neither drafted one in 2023 nor having signed one in undrafted free agency in April. Eason and Perkins are throwing their hats into that ring, a former fourth-round pick out of Georgia and Super Bowl-winner with the Los Angeles Rams, respectively.

After two seasons with the Cleveland Browns and one with the Miami Dolphins, Callaway spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs' practice squad before signing with the Cowboys' practice squad in November 2022. He signed a reserve/futures contract the following January in an effort to make the team this fall

Johnson, a 27-year-old out of Oklahoma State, went undrafted in 2019 and has been on quite the tour of the league ever since. He has one start on his résumé over 26 game appearances. He has 23 career receptions for 422 yards and three touchdowns, most of them coming with the Chargers in 2020.
