Disc Flower 91 | All Animations Demo

A variation of Evil Genius Labs' Fibonacci-series circular RGB discs.

This 100 mm diameter disc contains 91 RGB LEDs distributed using Fermat's spiral equation driven by natural constants: Golden angle and Pi.

Such arrangement can be observed in plenty of naturally occurring plants, like sunflower seeds, and gives rise to Fibonacci-spirals.

Animations written by Mark Kriegsman, Mary Corey March, Jason Coon, Yaroslaw Turbin, slightly modified by me for this particular hardware.

This demo showcases all currently available animations.

Color Picker and Image Transfer modes are to be used with Adafruit's Bluefruit LE Connect for iOS and Android application.

Enclosure is all 3D printed and can be tilted. The front display includes a Voronoi mesh to give a distinct cellular look for the individual pixels.

Special black acrylic light diffuser is placed in front of the LEDs. It doesn't reflect light (looks glossy black from the outside) but transmits all colors of light passing through it.

Comes with an optional ESP32 controller configured for BLE communication with the Bluefruit LE Connect app.

The disc has a hidden temperature sensor which is used by the ESP32 controller to prevent overheating. At full power these LEDs can easily drive themselves insanely hot.

The controller limits power consumption to 500 mA @ 5V which keeps the overall temperature below 40°C / 104°F.

It looks way more colorful in real life!
