As single-use plastic started creating havoc in the nation, the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi gave a clarion call to phase out single-use plastic by 2022. In line with the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s call, the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), the Government of India has declared a ban on a list of single-use plastic items effective 01 July 2022.
In alignment with the CPCB and MoEFCC decision, the Departments of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, and Urban Development, under the Government of Uttar Pradesh, have initiated the state-wide ‘RACE for Single-Use Free Uttar Pradesh’ campaign.
The Varanasi Nagar Nigam and Circular Waste Solutions project conducted a citywide awareness programme as part of the 'RACE for Single-Use Plastic Free Uttar Pradesh' from 29 June - 3 July 2022.
Volunteers dressed as single-use plastic went to public places like the ghats of #Varanasi, parks, malls, and railway platforms to deliver the message about the ban.
