Описание к видео Archaeology: Connecting With La Quinta's Ancestral Origins | Cahuilla Indians

Public Lecture by Bruce Love, PH. D
La Quinta Museum
January 19, 2023

Abstract: Between 1990 and 2003, Dr. Bruce Love did many digs in the Coachella Valley, especially in La Quinta, which was expanding rapidly at that time. Over those years Love went through personal growth as a person and as an archaeologist, from a data-oriented academic to an ally of the tribes trying to understand the spiritual underpinnings of exposing ancestral remains in the ancient sands where Cahuilla culture had dominated for thousands of years before the non-Native invasion. Today's lecture and the slideshow will retrace that journey and bring you, the audience, along with it. Before the lecture begins, there will be a blessing by Desert Cahuilla culture-bearer Dr. Sean Mianovich.

Bio: Love got his Ph. D in Anthropology from UCLA in 1986, and in 1990 moved to Riverside as Director of the Archaeological Research Unit at UCR. In 1993 he started his own business doing contract archaeology throughout Southern California and working extensively in the Coachella Valley. In 2003 Love sold his business and moved to the Antelope Valley (Palmdale-Lancaster) where he and his wife bought ten acres of raw land, drilled a well, and built an adobe house from scratch. He is also a Mesoamericanist and travels and travels and works extensively in the Maya regions of Guatemala, Belize, and the Yucatan Peninsula, and has written three books on Maya culture and history.
