Описание к видео How to Make Authentic German Currywurst

Inspired by my two assignments in Germany, Benjamin and I cook up a pot of authentic German curry ketchup to go over delicious red sausages (wurst). This meal brings back so many good memories of trips to the indoor pool in the dead of German winter and lunch breaks at a small Imbiss touring beautiful German historic cities. This meal is easy to make--there are lots of ingredients, but it's pretty hard to mess this one up. Feel free to substitute bratwurst, hotdogs, or chicken sausages. The curry ketchup makes them all delicious! The ketchup will keep in the refrigerator for up to a month. Serve with a crusty roll and/or french fries.

This recipe makes 1 1/2 cups of curry ketchup (about 4 servings). I doubled this for this video. It easily scales up higher.

Ingredients:
1 tablespoons of olive oil
1/2 cup yellow onions
1 garlic clove
1 1/2 tablespoons curry powder
1 tablespoon paprika
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 cup tomato ketchup
1 tablespoon tomato paste
5 tablespoons vegetable or chicken broth (I used vegetable)
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
1 tablespoon honey
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon yellow mustard
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
(optional) pinch of cayenne pepper to "pep" it up

Directions:
1. Heat oil in saucepan over med/low heat. Cook onions until translucent (do not brown them).
2. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute.
3. Add curry powder, paprika, cloves, and cinnamon, and stir in. Cook for 30 seconds.
4. Add all other ingredients and bring to a low simmer.
5. Cover and cook for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
6. Transfer to a blender and puree until smooth. A few minutes should be more than enough if you chopped the onions up fine enough.
7. Let cool. Transfer to a covered container and refrigerate.
8. Fry or grill sausages (or hotdogs) of choice. Slice them up when done and cover with curry ketchup to taste. Sop up the ketchup with the bread--you won't be sorry!

If you can wait (we couldn't), this just gets better after time. The flavors will blend together very nicely. I doubled this recipe and had enough for 4 with enough leftover curry ketchup for another 3-4 servings.
