The Chicago Blues Challenge sponsored by The Windy City Blues Society https://WindyCityBlues.org was held on Sunday, November 10, 2024, 5:00 pm - 11:00 pm at Buddy
Guy's Legends, https://BuddyGuy.com 700 S. Wabash, Chicago, Illinois.

The two winning acts, one solo/duet and one band, will represent Chicago at the 2025 International Blues Challenge in Memphis Tennessee, January 7-11, 2025. The Youth Act, Alex
Olson, will also represent Chicago in Memphis.

The performers were, in order of appearance:
1) Alex Olson (Youth)
2) Daniel "D-Bone" Volpe (Solo)
3) Windy City Rev Ups (Duet)
4) The Amanee Avery Band
5) The Paolo Apuli Band
6) Stefan Hillesheim
7) Marty "Big Dog" Mercer
8) The Chicago Diamonds

The program included with very special appearances by Buddy Guy followed by the announcement of the winners then a blues jam hosted by the Paolo Apuli Band featuring Wayne Baker Brooks.

The master of ceremonies is Dave "Mad Dog" Madlener, President of the Windy City Blues Society.

Acts are evaluated by six judges who have had decades of involvement with the local Chicago blues community. Set length is 20 minutes, strictly enforced.

Acts are scored on 5 weighted criteria:

1) Vocal talent (X 2)
2) Instrumental Talent (X 2)
3) Stage Presence (X 2)
4) Originality (X 3)
5) Blues Content (X 4)

Each act is then given a score of 1-10 in each of the weighted categories:

1-3 Typical of a beginning blues band.
4-5 Typical of a local weekend band.
6-7 Typical of an advanced local band but not yet ready to headline a major blues club.
8-9 Typical of the quality of blues artists who headline major clubs.
10 Typical of those who play the main stage at major festivals such as Chicago or King Biscuit.

Scores are compiled and winners announced at the end of the day's competition.
