On June 11, 2011, Father Gregory Boyle, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Homeboy Industries, was the keynote speaker at the 2011 UCLA School of Nursing Commencement where two hundred fifteen students received degrees in Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Master of Science in Nursing Advanced Practice, Master of Science in Nursing Master's Entry Clinical Nurse and Doctor of Philosophy.

In his speech, Father Boyle implores the graduating students as they come from the UCLA School of Nursing to create kinships with those on the margins so that they may create a place where everyone belongs and no one is excluded.
