The illegal drug trade that funded Bashar Al-Assad’s oppressive regime in Syria is being uncovered by the opposition fighters who toppled his government.

Captagon is an addictive amphetamine which, when consumed in high doses, can cause euphoria and paranoia.

Trafficking of captagon dwarfed legal exports from Syria under the regime, effectively turning the country into a narco state.

Maher Al-Assad, Bashar’s brother, is accused of being the key facilitator of the trade and drug producer.

In another factory in Syria, previously used to make crisps, the former owner said Maher seized the premises.
