Bad breath, also called as Halitosis, affect almost 50% of adults once in their lifetime. It is one condition that can have an impact on your social life, and make you conscious all the time. It hampers one's self confidence and can cause social anxiety.

So, in this video Doctor Upasana talks about how you can combat bad breath at home, effectively and gain back your confident smile.

So first, let's understand, what cause bad breath.

Your mouth has millions of bacteria present, which is completely normal. But the problem starts when bacteria, feed on plaque and food remnants left over in your mouth after you eat and in this process, they release foul smelling by products like hydrogen sulphide which in turn leads to bad breath. However, the good news is that regular brushing and flossing reduces bad breath. At times, only that might not be enough.
There are many products available in the market that can help combat bad breath, however not all of us would want to use medicated products.

So below are 7 unique methods that can be implemented at home, for a fresher, odour-free breath.

1. Drinking lots of water.
2. Have green tea. 2-3 times a day.
3. Chew on cloves or fresh mint leaves
4. Chew Fennel Seeds / Saunf
5. Make your own mouth wash with water and baking soda.
6. Use Essential Oils like Orange oil, Peppermint oil , Tea Tree oil.
7. Use a tongue scraper regularly.

Even after following these tips, the bad breath does not go away, it could mean that you could have gum disease. In this case I would recommend that you visit your dentist immediately, so that a deep gum cleaning can be done and the bacteria sitting deep in the gum pockets can be removed effectively.

There are many more underlying diseases that could lead to bad breath. Visit your general practitioner if the bad breath persists inspite of a dental cleaning. Do not ignore it and treat it wisely.
