A man was duped by scammers pretending to be staff from MCA's Public Services and Complaints Department after he sought help from Datuk Seri Michael Chong to settle his debt.

The scammer, known as 'Roy', contacted the victim via Facebook and convinced him to pay RM500 to open a bank account and RM5,000 in service fees, which was transferred to a company account registered with the Companies Commission of Malaysia.

The realisation only came two months later, after the victim noticed that 'Roy' had disappeared and the debts remained unpaid.

Chong has since denied any involvement and urged the public to lodge a report with MCA if anyone has been using his name to commit fraud.

He is also working with lawyers to file a lawsuit against those impersonating his staff.
