Darksiders Genesis is a prequel to the first three games. It uses a top-down perspective, but it plays pretty much the same. Apparently, Airship Syndicate is the team that had also worked on Battle Chasers: Nightwar, which I quite liked. Of course, this also means Joe Madureira's print still permeates these projects, thankfully. Darksiders Genesis was a pretty good game, but I would honestly rank it below the three main entries in the series. The writing was just not good enough. And that's without mentioning the innumerable typos found in the subtitles, as well as the complete lack of synchronization with the spoken voices. That's not to say it was all bad, however, and Strife's easy-going character is a good counterweight to War's stern outlook. There's no interconnected world this time around, but rather a main hub from which you can access chapters or levels. Enemy cores let you upgrade your characters in different ways, and you have to buy new moves from a shop. The best thing about the game, I'd say, was the music. The music was very good in Genesis. After the almost complete lack of music in III, it was good to hear such a strong score in this one. Overall, a good game, especially if you're a fan of Darksiders, but my least favorite so far.
