Learn how to replace the rear shocks and/or shock mounts on a Porsche 911 (997 or 996). To remove the shocks and struts, here are the steps, tools, and parts needed.
1. Place the rear of the vehicle on jack stands

2. Remove the rear wheels

● 1/2" Torque Wrench: https://amzn.to/3SmJmLi

3. Gain access to the rear shock mount bolts
● T30 & T40 Torx: https://amzn.to/4bhEwaz

4. Remove the rear shock mount bolts
● 10mm deep socket (DeWalt Mechanics Tool Set): https://amzn.to/3udAHCG

5. Remove the bolts holding the two upper control arms
● 16mm & 18mm open ended wrench: https://amzn.to/3HEzRC9
● 16mm & 18mm sockets (DeWalt Mechanics Tool Set): https://amzn.to/3udAHCG

6. Remove the rear sway bar end links on both sides

● T30 torx socket: https://amzn.to/4bhEwaz

7. Remove the rear sway bar mounts on both sides

8. Tilt the rear sway bar out of the way

9. Remove the lower rear control arm ball joint and separate it from the hub

10. Remove the lower shock mount bolt
● 16mm socket (DeWalt Mechanics Tool Set): https://amzn.to/3udAHCG

11. Remove the rear shock
● Rubber mallet: https://amzn.to/3HCCQLt

12. Disassemble the rear shock and remove the rear shock mount

● OEM Bilstein Rear Shock (PASM): https://amzn.to/3vQi34e

● Rear Coil Spring Seat: https://amzn.to/42jNW1m

13. Install the new rear shock mount onto the shock

14. Reinstall the shock following these steps in reverse
● 16mm control arm bolts: torque to 81 lbs-ft
● 16mm end link nut: 48 lbs-ft
● 13mm sway bar mount bolts: 17 lbs-ft
● 18mm rear lower control arm nut: 56 lbs-ft
● 15mm shock mount bolts: 34 lbs-ft

15. Reinstall the interior components

16. Reinstall your wheels
● 19mm wheel bolts: 96 lbs-ft

17. Lower your vehicle
