Rolling Thunder arcade original by Namco. C64 conversion by Tengen and/or Tiertex and published by US Gold in 1986.

"Rolling Thunder introduces intrigue and heroism in an intense action game. A secret society is plotting to conquer the world. The "Rolling Thunder" undercover police organisation is assigned to expose this conspiracy. Top agent, code name "Albatross" is sent to the enemy headquarters to complete the mission and free the allies held hostage."

The C64 conversion is a single load game containing only 10 levels over 2 loops. The game is more difficult than it looks as the enemies fire at you almost instantly as they appear killing you in one shot making the energy bar almost useless. The energy bar can save you should you come into contact with the enemy momentarily. The hitbox can be a bit odd and used to your advantage. if you are a step higher than the enemy you can still shoot them, but they don't seem to be able to hit you.

The controls can be a little annoying with fire+up to jump high with another button press needed to land else you fall back down. The graphics are quite basic but just about resembles the source material.

Overall, a short game but it plays mostly ok. If it was an original game at a budget price it might have been remembered more fondly but as a full price conversion of an original arcade it falls far short just as all other conversions of the game do.

Extra note. I originally started with the Nostalgia release for its bug fixes, but it introduces a game breaking bug in area five that allows you to fall through the floor due to some bugged gfx tiles. Instead, I have played the original disk version but like the tape version it has no title screens, so I added those from the nostalgia release.
