Hey, everyone. Shane here with etrailer.com. Today I have a 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe. I'm gonna walk through how to install Roadmaster Direct-Connect base plate. This is what it's gonna look like when it's installed. It's gonna be one of the five main components for a flat tow setup.

The other four are gonna be your tow bar, which gives you the connection between your base plate and your motorhome, your safety cables, which in case of an accidental disconnect keeps the two vehicles connected. Your lights system so that your motorhome lights transfer back to the back of the vehicle that you're towing. And then of course your braking system. That allows your vehicle to have its own braking power so that when you're stopping, you're not wearing out the brakes on the motorhome. Let's face it, brakes on the motorhome to replace are gonna be very expensive.

Let's go ahead and take a closer look at the base plate itself. I'm gonna go ahead and disconnect the safety cables here. The tow bar, the removable arm, you simply pull the pin or the ring, twist. You can remove the bar. You'll see it leaves a nice clean finish.

Your base plate is gonna hook directly to the chassis of the vehicle. As I mentioned earlier, it's gonna give you that solid connection point between the front of your vehicle at the towed vehicle and the back of the motorhome. It's gonna have a nice black powder coat finish, really thick. Roadmaster does a really good job on it. It's gonna hold up for a long, long time.

So this base plate's gonna work with just about any tow bar out there. Roadmaster especially, it's gonna have the direct connect ends. If you do not have a Roadmaster tow bar, you have a different manufacturer, we do have interchangeable ends that you can put on so it does work with the base plate. Simply slide it in, you'll take the large pin, slide it through, line it up with those two holes and you'll add on the linchpin and that's gonna hold it in place. Now as far as the installation goes on the base plate, it's time consuming. You are gonna have to remove the front fascia. There are some components behind the fascia you are gonna have to remove. You're gonna have to do some trimming obviously on the front end. If it's something that you don't think you're gonna have the time to do or the space to do it, you can always check out our dealer locator. You can find a suitable installer near you. They'll be able to install it for you. If you wanna try installing it yourself, follow along, we'll walk through how to do it now. To start our installation you wanna open your hood and we need to remove our hood latch. T15 star bit. (drill grinding) Or Torx spit. We'll take these two screws out. (drill grinding) And we'll pull our hood latch off. Next thing we're gonna do is you need a flathead screwdriver and a trim panel tool. You're gonna have some push pin fasteners that run right along this plastic panel here. Start on either side, there's a little opening. Put the screwdriver in there and you can take your trim panel tool and pop the rest of it out. You wanna make sure you get the base. If the top comes out without the base, you can pull the base out. You can always put 'em back together later. And we're gonna remove this and set it aside. And we're gonna take a 10 millimeter socket. We're gonna remove the six bolts that run right across the top of our grill. (drill grinding) We are gonna take our T15 Torx bit. We're gonna take out five screws, one here and then four right along this edge up to right above your marker light here. So once you get the five screws out, take your fender liner, pull it back, and right up in this corner on the inside there's gonna be a seven millimeter head bolt. You need to remove that. Then we're gonna come underneath and where our fascia rolls under, you're gonna see some bolts that go right across the edge here. Three 7 millimeter head bolts on each side. And you're gonna have five or so T15 Torx bits that run across the end here or this edge. So we'll start on one side and we'll just work our way across. (drill grinding) You're gonna notice there's gonna be four of 'em left over. They're gonna be the two that are closest together. And if you just push up on the bottom of this plastic panel, you'll see that they're not actually attaching
