Authorities in Moradabad identified 22 women who are Pakistani citizens These women have been living in the area for several years with some having resided there for decades. They came to India after marrying Indian men these women have given birth to 95 children in India These children are Indian citizens by birth Many of the children are now adults and approximately 35% of the women are grandmother's The total number of family members including children and grandchildren, exceeds 500 The women are living in India on long term visas and have applied for Indian citizenship which has not yet been granted Despite not holding Indian citizenship the women possess government issued ration and Aadhaar cards which allow them access to public welfare schemes
Following the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam Jammu and Kashmir authorities are conducting a security review As part of this the visa status and family backgrounds of these women and two Pakistani men also residing in the district are being verified.
As of now no deportation orders have been issued against any of these individuals or their family members
This situation has garnered attention due to the number of individuals involved and the ongoing security concerns following the terrorist attack Authorities are currently focused on gathering detailed information about these families
