Although her history is lost between legend and tradition, her alleged miracles and her fame as a protector have echoed for centuries. Tradition holds that, imprisoned by her father in a tower for professing the Christian faith, Barbara was miraculously saved and, after terrible tortures, died a serene death. For this reason, she is invoked as the patron saint of artillerymen, miners, and against lightning and storms.
