"Kenny G was a serious player in the 70s who saw an opportunity, decided to go commercial, and basically became a genre unto himself. For the sin of commercial success, he is reviled by the jazz community (who largely toil in anonymity while shedding their hippest altered bebop lix), and by classical players for defiling the holy name of Marcel Mule and making them endlessly respond to the question, “You play saxophone! Do you know any Kenny G??”

He is very self-aware, has a sense of humour about his place in the musical world, and is unashamed about his economic success. He (for the most part) stays in his lane, doesn’t try to be anything he isn’t, and occasionally makes fun of himself in his various crossover appearances.

People need to get over it."
