(2 Jun 2019) WW II VETERANS AND 'BAND OF BROTHERS' ACTORS MEET IN FRANCE AHEAD OF 75TH ANNIVERSARY OF D-DAY ALLIED FORCES INVASION
American World War II veterans and actors from the hit HBO show "Band of Brothers" got a chance to meet Sunday (02 JUNE 2019) near the sight of the Allied Normandy invasion in France.
The meet up took place just days before the 75th anniversary of the Allied Forces D-Day invasion on June 6.
One of the vets, Edward Burke, laughed as he noted, "There is only going to be very few of us when we come back next year. Me and some of these other fellows."
The number of WW II veterans is dwindling  and this year's D-Day anniversary may be the last major commemoration to include large numbers of the soldiers, sailors and airmen who took part in the invasion that marked the beginning of the end for Nazi Germany.
Burke was involved in the campaign for Normandy, Brittany Peninsula, Northern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe, where they met the Russians at the Elbe. He received over 10 combat medals, awards and citations from the United States Army, including the Silver Star, Bronze Star and five campaign battle stars.
Nicholas Aaron, an actor from the HBO series said, " I can't put it into words, it feels like a responsibility. We are here because we feel like we should (be here)."
"Band of Brothers," co-produced by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg ran, ran for one season as a 10-part series and won six Emmy awards. It followed a group of soldiers during the D-Day landings and the following 12 months that led up to the defeat of Germany.
