Скачать или смотреть FaultWeave: A Proxy-based Approach for Efficient Resilience Testing of Microservices

Resilience testing of microservices is often time-consuming and
disruptive, as each test case requires a full cycle of orchestrating
the fault injection, ramping up its intensity, observing system be-
havior, and finally rolling back the fault to restore the services. This
comprehensive process demands significant resources and carries
the risk of unintended side effects. To address these challenges,
in this paper, we propose FaultWeave, a light-weight, proxy-based
approach which can systematically identify the resilience issues
with minimal overhead. FaultWeave begins by capturing the out-
comes of fault injections on individual microservices. It then in-
telligently composes these pre-recorded fault effects to simulate
complex failure scenarios, thereby exposing system vulnerabilities
without the need for repeated, disruptive full-scale tests. The ex-
perimental results demonstrate the efficacy of our approach on a
medium-sized open-source microservice benchmark TrainTicket,
where it achieves a significant reduction in median testing time
by approximately 30 times. Furthermore, FaultWeave successfully
uncovered xx resilience issues in a real-world microservice appli-
