Описание к видео Wife speaks out after husband dies in hospital after allegedly waiting to see doctor

This is the full length interview with Niharika Sreekumar, the wife of a man who died after allegedly waiting to see a doctor at the Grey Nuns Community Hospital in Edmonton.

In this conversation, she describes what she says happened while her husband Prashant waited for medical attention, the moments leading up to his death, and the questions she says remain unanswered. Her account reflects the family’s experience and perspective.

Prashant Sreekumar died December 22, 2025 at Grey Nuns Community Hospital after experiencing a major cardiac arrest, according to his family.

Niharika Sreekumar says her husband, Prashant, an accountant and father of three, died on December 22, 2025 after collapsing while waiting to be seen by a doctor.

According to Sreekumar, Prashant was at work around noon when he began experiencing severe chest pain while meeting with a client. That client drove him to Grey Nuns Community Hospital. Sreekumar says she later met her husband at the hospital, along with her father-in-law.

Sreekumar alleges her husband waited at least eight hours to see a doctor. She says when his name was finally called, he was then seated in a care unit room with other patients still waiting for medical attention, when Prashant began shaking, then collapsed into her arms and onto the floor.

“I was crying and yelling his name,” she said, adding that medical staff rushed into the room and she was escorted away shortly afterward.

Sreekumar says a doctor came to speak with her minutes later and told her that her husband had died.

Family members say they were later informed by a physician that Prashant suffered a major cardiac arrest. However, they say the exact cause of death has not yet been determined. The family also says they were told by the medical examiner that autopsy results could take six to nine months.

Prashant leaves behind his wife and three children, a 14-year-old daughter, a 10-year-old son, and a three-year-old son with special needs who requires around-the-clock medical care. Sreekumar works from home to care for their youngest child.

The hospital and health officials have not yet responded to requests for comment on the family’s allegations.

Alberta’s Minister of Hospital and Surgical Health Services says Acute Care Alberta has been directed to conduct a joint review with Covenant Health into the circumstances surrounding the death of the 44-year-old man at the Grey Nuns Community Hospital.

In a statement posted to social media, Alberta Medical Association president Dr. Brian Wirzba wrote, in part, that the AMA “remains concerned about the pressures facing emergency care in Alberta and whether the system is adequately resourced to support patients safely, sustainably and with accountability.”
